About
I had a love for adventure, which led me to pursue a career in the military. After 47 + years in the South Carolina National Guard, I retired. I can’t think of anything else that would have offered me such unique experiences. Moreover, the people I encountered during my service were the best! After retiring, I wanted to keep traveling in a more meaningful and memorable way. So, I decided to create a travel blog, which I thought would be an excellent way to learn more about the places I’d visit and the people I’d meet, another way to reinforce my love for adventure.
In 2018, I created my travel blog, Travel Notes & Storytelling. Soon after, I began pursuing photography as well. My passion is to travel, take pictures, and write stories that inspire and educate others. Every destination, whether near or far, is unique and fascinating, reinforcing my love of adventure. I am fortunate to live in South Carolina, which provides endless opportunities for travel and photography. Its mountains, rivers, lakes, sea shores, and fascinating people offer endless and rich diversity. Whenever I plan a trip, I start by reading books about the destination, learning its history, and researching where and how to take the best images. The process of preparing for a trip, writing about it, and taking photos is what I genuinely enjoy, and it reinforces my love of adventure.
My love of adventure and strategy for more meaningful travel has paid off in many ways.
I have found that my stories and photos draw me closer to people. Some have even proofread my stories about my experiences with them for authenticity. One of my favorites is a story about a cooking experience in Capetown, South Africa, called “Colorful Cooking Experience in Bo-Kaap.” Gamidah Jacobs, who showed us her cooking techniques in her home, reviewed my story for authenticity. This helped me to learn more about her. Every story and picture has meaning and value, satisfying my love of adventure. Both writing and photography are skills that improve with practice, and that’s something I enjoy about it, too. My blog is a tool that helps me to share my stories and pictures, but even that requires continuous learning.
